The buzz on the UKMRC boards is who's going to win the BRCA Micro National series in the winter 2009/'10 championship ?
Well the 2WD class looks like it's going to a question of who's coming second since Steve Davies from what I've seen in summer testing at his local Hereford club looks to be near unbeatable! After his fine showing at the March '09 Hereford micro national Craig Harris looked to be the only other driver good enough to take the fight to Steve, but with Craig announcing that he won't be running in either micro class this upcoming season it isn't to be. Steve is just one of the very best UK RC drivers in any class and if you've seen his amazing looking Mini-X6 his engineering skills are even higher.
Dan Osbourne a driver with many years of micro racing behind him with both 2WD and 4WD cars is a strong contender and being a Tekin and Exotek team driver may give him and his MXT the edge over his rivals. Current 2WD champion John Timberlake has been busy testing a whole host of things to give his Losi Mini-T Pro a fighting chance. John's micro lacked a little straight line speed last season but a move to a faster Losi Xcelorin brushless system and LiPos should hopefully address this. Other 2WD drivers to watch out for include Ashley Williams, Allan Davies, Dan Harding, Ricky Macgough and Callum Macgough.
4WD is a hard call, there are many talented drivers all challenging for the win in this class, and just making the A-final is a task in it's self. Chris Bottle, Danny Conway, Stuart Harlow, Steve Biscoe, Gavin Stephenson, Alec Springer, Thomas Graham, Dan Osborne, Jamie Conway, Andrew Vincent and Carl Venter are just some of the regulars that will battling for a top ten spot, but where the actual title is concerned there a few exceptional drivers which in my opinion have something extra that separates them from the rest.
These drivers, in no particular order, who are my vote for the top spot are Tony Bishop, Steve Davies, Chris Kerswell and last seasons 4WD champion Mark Stiles. Chris and Mark are hardened 12th circuit racers who participate in the 12th scale BRCA national series during the winter. This extra commitment could see them miss out on some of the rounds, so every race will be especially crucial to there overall success. Interestingly three out of these four drivers all come from a flat track circuit racing background which very much proves you can move from another discipline of RC and do incredibly well at 18th scale off-road micro racing.
Wildcard entries could include Chris Doughty, Chris Leighton and Keith Robertson who will surly all take valuable points away from the top boys and gals. 2007/'08 season Modified champion Cris Oxley has confirmed his participation in the 4WD class for the upcoming season so will be a driver to watch out for along with some of the up and coming talent who may surprise the unwary. I've been especially impressed with some of the younger drivers during the summer open meetings this year, and Andrew Dean would be my tip as one to keep an eye on for something special :)
