Trucks are all the rage in the RC world at the moment especially those realistic looking desert/Dakar/short course trucks which not only appeal to hardened RC addicts but also casual bashers due to the similarity to real racing trucks you can watch on the telly.
As you'll probably know the 10th class has be in-fluxed with recent short course truck releases including the rather tasty looking Losi Strike, Traxxas Slash and Associated SC10. Not to be outdone by the 10th guys, micro racers have some great micro racing trucks to choose from including the Losi Mini-Desert Truck and Limited Edition Mini-T, both based upon the same 2WD platform, plus the 4WD Associated RC18T and XRay M18T.
For something a little larger we have the Associated RC18MT, FTX Roxster, Kyosho Mini-Inferno ST, Tamiya Wild Boar, XRay M18MT and legendary Losi Mini-LST series including the shiny new Losi Limited Edition Mini-LST2 - released only last week, and the officially licensed Dodge Rammunition & Raminator monster trucks.
This new Limited Edition Mini-LST2 hopefully sets a trend for future RTR releases, being not only supplied with a 2.4Ghz Spektrum radio system but also a LiPo battery and charger as well, way to go Losi !
At the premium price end of the market, and sure to reach the UK shores at some time, are the chunky 16th scale Traxxas Mini-Revo and Mini-Slash. Wow these vehicles are a bashers dream being supplied with a Velineon bushless system and capable of 30mph straight out of the box.
The larger basher friendly and infinitely hop-up able 16/18th scale micro trucks would look awesome racing around a track for sure, not only for their drivers but also the spectators alike. Unfortunately micro truck racing has pretty much died out in the UK with bashing being the only option due to no official class and the current BRCA dimension rules not accommodating many of them in the existing 2WD/4WD classes.
I for one would love to see a national level class for these larger micro trucks, and if we take to them like our friends across the pond then there’s no reason why a third micro class can't flourish. So all you big wheel micro bashers out there, get yourselves together and booked into the various micro club and open meetings across the country, then who knows you could have your very own mini monster truck class in the not too distant future :)
